About the Trinacria...
The Trinacria has been the official symbol of Sicily since the ancient Greek age and most likely before that.
The word Trinacria refers to the shape of Sicily. The Trinacria represents the head of Medusa (a gorgon with a hair-snakes), surrounded by three bent legs, and three stalks of wheat. This symbol has been adopted by the Sicilian government and is located on the center of Sicily's flag. The three bent running legs represent the three capes of Sicily, Peloro (North-East), Passero (South-East), and Lilibeo (West), which also creates the three points of the triangle. The three legs also symbolize the "wheel" of life and the time passing by.
